किसी शहर में एक कोयले की खदान थी. जिसमे सैकड़ो लौग काम करते थे. हर सुबह मजदुर और इंजीनियर खदान में उतरते और शाम को सायरन बजते ही वापस निकलते। एक बार एक मजदुर खदान में फस गया. ओह जब मुख्य द्वार पर पंहुचा तो मुख्य द्वार बंद हो चूका था, और चारो तरफ सन्नाटा था. उसकी टोपी में लगी बती की बैटरी भी समाप्त होने को थी. अब उस मज्धुर के हाथ-पावं फूल गये ओह ओही बेठकर रोने लगा. ईश्वर से जीवन को बचाने की भिख मागने लगा. वह बराबर बोल रहा था की हे ईश्वर, मेरे बच्चे और पत्नी इंतजार कर रहे है. घर का एक में ही अकेला कमाने वाला हु. थोड़ी देर में उसकी आखो के आगे अँधेरा छाने लगा. तभी दवाजे पर दस्तक हुई. उसने देखा की दरवाजा खुला और चौकीदार टार्च लिए खदान में दाखिल हुआ. चौकीदार की नजर जब मजदुर पर पड़ी, तो उसके जान में जान आयी. चोकीदार उसे सहारा देकर बहार निकाला। थोड़ी देर में जब मजदुर सहज हो गया, तब उसने चोकोदर से पूछा-भाई आपको कैसे पता चला की में खदान मैं खदान में फसा हुआ हु.और आप मेरी जान बचने आ गये? चौकीदार बोला इस खदान में सैकड़ो मजदुर  और इंजीनियर रोजाना आते है, लेकिन मुझे कोई कुछ भी नहीं बोलता है. चुपचाप आते है और अपना काम करके चले जाते है. लेकिन एक आप ही है, जो हर दिन मुझसे मिलकर मुस्कुराते हुए पूछते है, कैसे हो चोकोदर भाई? मैं आज भी आपके उसी मुस्कुराहट का इंतजार कर रहा था. और जब आप नहीं दिखे तो लगा कुछ गड़बड़ है और में आपको खोजने आ गया. ये सुनते ही मजदुर की आखें भर आयी और उसने चोकीदार को गले से लगा लिया।
